John Richard Bryant, a retired presiding bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) was a well-respected leader in the African-American community and has served as a pastor, educator and administrator for over 50 years. He was born on the 8th of June, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Morgan State University (B.A degree), Boston University of School of Theology(M.Th) and the Colgate Rochester Divinity School (D.Min). He has also been recognised with honorary doctorates from many universities.
Bishop Bryant has served as pastor for many AME churches in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He has also held various leadership positions in the AME Church, including President of the Council of Bishops and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the AME Zion Publishing House.
Aside from his pastoral work, he has also been a civil rights activist and educator. He was one of the pioneers of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in Maryland and served as its president for several years. He has also taught at many universities, such as Morgan State University and the University of Baltimore.

She is also a self-help instructor and author. She is dedicated to empowerment of African and Diasporic women. The couples are parents to two awesome individuals doing well in the various areas of their life, Rev. Dr. Jamal Harrison-Bryant, Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and Dr. Thema Simon Bryant-Davis who is an associate professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University.
