Raza Jaffrey is a British singer and actor. He is well known for his appearances as Zafar Younis in BBC One’s spy thriller Spooks (2004-2007) and Neal Hudson in CBS’s medical drama Code Black (2015). He also appeared as Aasar Khan in the fourth season of the Showtime series Homeland (2014). He most recently acted in NBC’s The Enemy Within (2019) and Starz’s The Serpent Queen (2022 till date).

Raza Jaffrey was born on May 28, 1973, in Merseyside, Liverpool. His biological father Hyder Jaffrey was born in Agra, India. He later relocated to Pakistan as a result of the change in political borders in India. Later, he relocated to the UK to be trained in the merchant marine. Within the shortest possible time, he rose to the rank of captain.

In the 1950s, Hyder fell in love with Irish Catholic Liverpudlian Joan Bradshaw, and the two spent ten years living in Karachi, Pakistan. Raza was the youngest of the four children the couple produced after getting married in 1962. He attended Dulwich College from 1986 to 1991, he even studied with actors Rupert Penry-Jones and Chiwetel Ejiofor who were also natives of London.

Jaffrey had an initial plan of wanting to join the Royal Air Force as a pilot, and after passing the required admission examinations, he enrolled at Manchester University to study English and Drama to earn a degree so he could begin officer training. However, he developed an interest in performing while at college and, after graduating, entered the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Jaffrey performed in numerous plays while still in college, including The London Vertigo by Brian Friel at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Henry VIII and A Comedy of Errors at the Pendley Open Air Shakespeare Festival.
