Melanie Jayne Lynskey was born in New Zealand to Tim Lynskey her father who was an orthopedic surgeon and her mother, Kay Lynskey who was also a real estate agent. Melanie was born on 16th May, 1977. She is the eldest of five children with her having three brothers and a sister. She attended New Plymouth Girls’ High School, where she was involved in the drama department and school plays after which she studied at Victoria University of Wellington.

Melanie started her professional acting debut came at age 16 with a starring role in the 1994 movie Heavenly Creatures. Lynskey was named Best Actress at the 1995 New Zealand Film Awards for her role in Heavenly Creatures. In 2003, she landed the part of Rose, the devious but lovable neighbor of Charlie Harper on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. After initially appearing in the pilot episode as a guest character, Lynskey was invited to become a series regular, and went on to appear frequently throughout the show’s first two seasons. Despite leaving the main cast in 2005 to concentrate on film work, a decision that executive producer Chuck Lorre said he had “a lot of respect for” as she continued to make guest appearances on the show up until its final episode, which aired in February 2015.
