His mother, Nomachule Ngezana, raised Siyabonga and his siblings under difficult financial circumstances. She worked as a retail security guard after moving from KwaZulu-Natal to Sebokeng in search of better opportunities. His father, Nhlanhla Nkabinde, remained in KwaZulu-Natal, where he worked as a farm worker caring for livestock.
