Born in Sarajevo, the capital town and the largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina to parents Belma and Midhat Džeko.

He started his football career in the early 2000s when he started playing for his boyhood club Željezničar, move to Teplice in 2005, made a couple of loan spells at Ústí nad Labem. Edin started making a name for himself when he joined Wolfsburg Fc in 2008. Manchester City later signed him after being the top-scorer in the German Bundesliga.

He is considered as one of the most decorated football strikers in the world having had a great career with other teams like Manchester City, AS Roma, Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Fenerbache.
