Anthony Head has been in the limelight since the 1970s. In 1978, he and Su Pollard played one of his earliest parts in the musical Godspell. Anthony Head made his television debut the same year as Clive Martel, a member of the island resistance, in the London Weekend Television programme Enemy at the Door. Again, He sang background vocals for the band Red Box in the early 1980s. He also appeared on Two Way’s 1983 album Face in the Window.

In the 1990–1991 West End version of The Rocky Horror Show at London’s Piccadilly Theatre, The English star portrayed Frank N. Furter, and The character was reprised by him in the summer of 1995 at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London, in a tribute performance in May 2006 at the Royal Court Theatre in London, and in a production in October 2000 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He co-starred in the BBC Two television series Manchild in 2002, a programme about four friends in their fifties who struggle to reclaim their waning youth and vigour while dealing with life as mature men. He has starred as a guest star in several other series, including Silent Witness, Murder Investigation Team, and Spooks. In 2003, he starred as one of the main characters’ (Abi’s) father in the episode “May the Best Man Win” in the fourth series of the British smash comedy My Family. From 2003 to 2005, he played the Prime Minister in the renowned BBC comedy sketch programme Little Britain, and he appeared in numerous episodes of the 2004 series of the popular drama Monarch of the Glen.

In the BBC Radio 4 comedy series Bleak Expectations (five series, 2007–12), Head played two of the principal roles—arch-villain Mr Gently Benevolent and his descendant, journalist Jeremy Sourquill. Again, He also played the role of Hercules Shipwright, a significant recurring role in the last two series (2011–13) of the Radio 4 sitcom Cabin Pressure. Anthony Head was a regular character in Merlin, which centred on the fabled magician Merlin. Head portrayed King Uther Pendragon, Prince Arthur’s father.

Additionally, Anthony Head provided the voiceovers for Frozen North Productions’ Flip’s Twisted World for the Nintendo Wii. At the 2016 Prague Independent Film Festival, he took home the Best Supporting Actor trophy for his performance in the movie, Despite the Falling Snow. Anthony Head joined the cast of the venerable BBC radio serial opera The Archers in July 2018 and took on the role of Robin Fairbrother, a member of a family with several historical and contemporary ties to the Archers themselves.
