Gemma Christina Arterton was born at North Kent Hospital in Gravesend, England on February 2, 1986. She was born with a condition resulting in her having extra fingers ( polydactyly) which a doctor removed shortly after her birth. Gemma was born to Sally-Anne Heap and Barry J. Arterton. Her mother used to run a cleaning business, and her father was a welder. Her parents got divorced during her early childhood, and so she grew up on a council estate with her younger sister, Hannah Arterton and mother.
Gemma Arterton attended Gravesend Grammar School for Girls, a state grammar school in Kent (now Mayfield Grammar School). She made her amateur stage debut in a production of Alan Ayckbourn’s The Boy Who Fell into a Book. Her performance won her the best actress prize in a competition at a local festival. When she turned 16years, Arterton left Gravesend Grammar School to attend acting college at the Miskin Theatre at North Kent College in Dartford. She later studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), graduating in 2008.
Miss Arterton had her first professional role in Stephen Poliakoff’s Capturing Mary while she was still at drama school and made her first film appearance in St Trinian’s as Kelly. She has also produced some films.
Arterton met John Nolan on the set of a James Bond movie and they lived together in London for a while. In 2008, she had a relationship with the Spanish stuntman Eduardo Muñoz, whom she met on the set of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time but split up in after six months. Gemma had her first marriage with Stefano Catelli in 2010, however, they separated in 2013, and, in August 2015, their divorce was finalised “by consent”.
