He was born in Beirut, Lebanon, into a Jewish family and  moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to escape the Lebanese Civil War. Saad holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science and an M.B.A. from McGill University, as well as an M.Sc and Ph.D.  from Cornell University. Saad is an atheist who identifies culturally as a Jewish.
